Oct. 28th assignment

Ads that have caught my attention the last 2 days on:

I spend very little time watching TV because I don't have my own but while watching the bulls game last night I saw these commercials that caught my attention.

TV- Adidas commercial with Derek Rose and Ken Jeong
- "Affordable home furniture where furniture is affordable" commercial
- Tequilas commercial
- Quatros commercial

I spend much more time on my computer where advertisments effect me much more then television.

Internet - Tkegear.com advertises on my facebook page
- When watching episodes on hulu.com Louis vuitton ads come up before during and after the episode also each channel (abc, nbc, fox, discovery, comedy central) all have advertising on hulu
- On tvadsview.com samsung tv ads pop up when I highlight a hyperlink
- Volkswagen ads appear in the sidebar of my hotmail account when i check my inbox
- Espn.com has links for apple, penny stock, and low morgage rates at the bottom of the page

The ads that caught my attention the most was the Addidas commercial and the louis Vuitton ads on hulu. As a bulls fan the Addidas commercial caught my attention because Derek Rose is in it. The Louis Vuitton commercials in hulu are not as relevent to me but because you have to sit through them before watching your show they are viewed by many people that otherwise wouldn't.

Nike Shoes Creative Breif

Background: The purpose of this advertisement is to focus on the different athletic functions of Nike's sports shoe lines on college campuses.

Objectives: Nike already has created a very functional line of athletic footwear for a variety of sports. The intramural department at SIU is bigger then it has ever been thanks to the new intramural fields and updated recreational center that was built in 2008. The purpose of this creative breif is to explain how we will expand Nike's sports footwear to the college students on campus who are active in Intramural sports as well as weight-lifting and running.

Tagret Audience: The focus of these advertisments will be on 18-25 year olds who participate in active lifestyles. By creating advertisments that show/prove the sturdyness and ability of the shoe Nike will be able to sell to this target audience because college students don't have much money to spend, if they know that the shoe will last it will be worth the somewhat higher price to them.

hw #3

After watching The Persuaders I learned how advertising has evolved over the years. I feel the biggest advancement in the way companies advertise their products is by switching from explaining to what products do to what products mean. They use Star Bucks as an example by saying we all know what coffee is and what it does when you drink it, but what coffee means at Star Bucks is a place of community where it is a place to get away, a place that is not home nor work.

Some problems that occur with contemporary advertisement is the fact that companies are constantly are creating new products which need completely new promotions. Everything from color schemes to product commercials constantly need to be re-made and this creates a never ending cycle.

Ethical problems that we need to be aware of with advertising is competition. Companies who sell similar products do what they can to make themselves look better then others. Such as Advil vs. Tylenol. Advil frequently talks about how to Advil a day is equal to 8 Tylenol. Is it right for the Advil company to bash Tylenol's product? No, but it is an easy way to convince consumers to switch over from Tylenol to Advil.

Homework #2

The brand of the product that I chose is Paul Reed Smith. PRS is a guitar manufacturing company that prides themselves in creating quality guitars. What seperates these guitars from others are their uniqueness in design and parts. They use a varitey of stones, different toned wood, and shells to create beautiful works of art which have a sound quality unmatched by other guitar brands. The general review of this particular PRS( the SE Coustom) is that it is made by the high quality PRS brand, but still at a affordible price for someone who is looking for a more advanced guitar. When I purchased this guitar I was looking for a step up from my beginner low quality Squire Stratocaster. I saw the PRS SE Coustom and thought why not jump up two steps for the same price as a guitar that is only one step better.

My Favorite ad

This web video is currently my favorite ad for a few different reasons. To begin with I like how it jumps straight into people using the product, because in my eyes it is the only way the product can be explained. The product(Freebord) is such a new technology that seeing it in action raises a few questions in the viewers mind. My first reaction to this video was utter amazement. As someone who is very familiar with the sports of snowboarding and skateboarding I couldn't believe that movements like this were possible on concrete. I would have to say that amazement and curiosity in this new innovative product was the hook, line, and sinker to me liking this add. Also I related to the music and style of the people in the add. I felt when watching that these people were the kind of people I could relate to making me more interested in purchasing the product for myself, which I have owned the product for around 3 weeks now and it is everything that this ad shows it can be.
